Adapting CRISPR/Cas9 Technology for the Classroom

Formative & Summative Evaluation

Overview

The Evaluation Center is partnering with faculty from University of Colorado – Colorado Springs to evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of a gene editing training for community college instructors. Following the summer training, instructors will return to their campuses and use training content to teach their students about this gene editing approach while offering lab research experience.

Evaluation Approach

The evaluation uses a mixed-methods approach to assess the implementation and effectiveness of the gene editing training. Evaluators are conducting in-depth interviews and focus groups with instructors who are participating in the summer training and implementing the program at their respective campuses in order to learn about implementation and how their institutions and/or colleagues supported their efforts on campus.

Additionally, evaluators are using pre-post surveys for participants in the summer training, as well as pre-post surveys for the students who will participate in the class at their campus. Instructors are also surveyed before they implement the program at their campus.
